United World Wrestling with the assistance of the Algerian Wrestling Federation hosted a Training Camp and Level 1 Coaching Course directly after the 2016 Continental Championships.
Each country who participated in the championships was allocated 9 places in the camp, 3 for woman, 3 for Greco and 3 for Free Style. The top wrestlers from each country were chosen by UWW based on their individual performances.
UWW launched the More than Medals program to promote and develop cadet wrestling. The training camps are part of a larger initiative to grow the sport amongst the youth. Part of this initiative was allowing Federations to enter more than one wrestler in each category and weight for the Continental Championships.
The wrestlers chosen to remain for the camp were:
1. Freestyle
• Xander Coetzee
• Francois Rossouw
• Matthew Bartlett
2. Greco Roman
• JJ Ludick
• Ondrej Dvoulety
• Johan Hulme
3. Woman
• Cheyenne Smit
The two coaches who stayed for the camp and attended the course were Hansie Kruger (FS & FW) and Kurt Herzog (GR)
We are extremely proud of all our wrestlers and coaches who participated, through hard work and dedication we managed to achieve excellent results and look forward to seeing these guys in action for many more years.
