Four of our senior wrestlers took to the mat yesterday at the 11th All African Games in Brazzaville.
The competitions got off on a rocky start, after the start was delayed by nine hours, but once it started there was nothing but fireworks on the mat. With some top notch wresters, including Tarek Aziz Benaissa from Algeria whom qualified for Rio2016 just days before at the World Championships in Las Vegas USA, taking part in this year’s competition.
KleinJan Combrick and Andre Schutte done very well wrestling their hearts out to both win silver medals.
Barco Badernhorst had an extremely thought weight with both the Algerian and Egyptian wresters in his weight, being top of their class in the world.
Tiaan van der Merwe won his first match with a pin, but obtained a very unfortunate knee injury in his second match against Egypt and had to withdraw from the competition due to the injury.
We are looking forward to today's wrestling, when the ladies will take to the mat approximately 11:00 South African Time.
